My unintentional makeover

I have mentioned before that I am undergoing a personal makeover process. I say process because I am overhauling everything about myself from my hair to my personality so this isn’t exactly an overnight situation.

The idea of a beauty blogger collaboration has been on my mind for a while and I even contacted two fantastic bloggers but just haven’t had the time to set up a date with them. I have been seeing some of Ryno’s work on Facebook now and then and last week one of his posts mentioned an eyebrow makeover. Talk about foundation and my eyes will glaze over, mention eyebrows and I go on high alert! It is such a sore point for me that I have the world sparsest eyebrows. Not only is there hardly any hair, the hair that is there is really light. To make matters worse, something went wrong with my threading in Dec and about a week afterwards my eyebrows suddenly looked crazy thin. So I have been growing them back since then. Hence the godawful Before pic below:

I know I look like I have given up on life here but I was just tired πŸ˜‚ Story of my life.

Anyway, I messaged Ryno and asked to book an eyebrow makeover. At just R150 it seemed like it was worth a try. He fitted me in this Wed but there was a slight miscommunication and we didn’t get to have the session. We rescheduled for this morning and he generously threw in a mini makeover for me. Shame, maybe he took pity on me, I must have really looked downtrodden on Wednesday, haha!

I expected some waxing or threading but instead he used a little razor and an electric thingamajig to shape my brows and neaten around it. The reasoning behind this being that it is a less aggressive form of hair removal for the sensitive skin around the eye area. When he was done I was already optimistic about the final result. The shape was really good considering the scraps he had to work with.

Next he colored in my brows using a brown triangular eyebrow pencil (I had no idea this existed but it is now on my ‘must buy’ list). Can we just take a moment to look at the picture below and applaud the skill that it took to make these eyebrows look so natural!

After a bit more magic makeup, my eyebrows not only looked fuller, they looked…I’m going to say fluffy for lack of a better word. It actually looked like that was my natural hair as opposed to make up. I’m sitting in bed and typing this now and I’m still amazed at how natural he made me look.

The mini makeover followed with some foundation, mascara, blush and lipstick. I am not a makeup girl. I’m pretty sure I threw Ryno for a loop when he asked what my preferred shade of lipstick is and I said Labello. As much as I admire people who apply makeup and transform themselves, it is not a skill I ever took the time to learn. Something that I do regret at times. The look that he created for me was so light and easy to wear that it’s something I’m almost certain I could (sort of) recreate at home. You can see that I’m quite chuffed with the final result.

Besides the obvious cosmetic improvement, it was so nice just chatting with Ryno. He’s really easy to talk to and didn’t for a second make me feel bad for my obvious lack of beauty knowledge. It is so clear from the way he speaks and works that not only is he fantastic at what he does, he also loves it. I mean, he must, because Ryno used to be a beauty editor and a fashion editor for high end magazines. He’s also worked the corporate side of the fashion and beauty industry and he has left all of it to immerse himself in the creative side of the beauty world.

If you were thinking of getting your face done or going for a lesson (or if you weren’t before but you are now), I cannot recommended him highly enough. Ryno is off to Albania in May for a makeup course done by Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist – that’s how serious he is about his craft! This is why I say you should make a booking ASAP! I feel as if he is going to be out of the reach off the average woman soon. But at least when he is famous and working in Hollywood I can show off and say that he worked on my face too πŸ˜‰

Here’s some of the insane makeovers from Ryno’s Instagram page to seal the deal:
