Women’s Month Mompreneur #24 – Linzy Kastis – Kids Cooking Class Instructor

In light of August being Women’s Month, I thought it would be the perfect time to promote some hard working mums. You could find the service provider you were looking for or be inspired to take that leap you’ve been dreaming of.

1. Tell me a little about yourself without including details of your family and work (it’s tough I know 😂)

Wow that’s a tough one…

I love to be creative and I’m always looking for budget ideas to spice up my home. I enjoy a family day out or even just a pajama day at home. I love to bake (not so much clean lol). I also enjoy the occasional nap (which is not so often) and love a nice chat and cup of tea with my mom!

2. How many kids do you have and what are their ages?

I have two children, my daughter Charlotte (aged 6) and my son Lincoln (aged 3).

3. What is your side hustle? And when did you start?

My business is know as Little Kitchen. It is a wonderful child-orientated food program. My idea started in 2016 and materialized in 2017. From when I officially started in 2017 I have lived, loved and learned from every step! I love what I do and every day is different.

4. What did you do before starting your own business AND what made you leave?

I graduated as a Somatologist in 2003 and followed in that direction from then. I then got into lecturing focusing on skincare which I really enjoyed and learnt a lot and stayed there until I had my second baby. I then decided I needed to be more flexible and needed to be with my children as much as possible. I did not want to miss out on them growing up. I was a stay at home mom for a while while I figured out what I wanted to do (which was financially stressful and lots of work, all the stay at home mums know what I mean, but I loved it!)

5. How do you allocate your time between work and family?

This is something which is extremely difficult and stressful at times, however, it is also manageable if planned correctly and with the right support structure. I have classes in the afternoon (3 x week). I then try to allocate 1 x week (morning) for admin while my children are at school. I am also lucky to have my mom to call on if I need help during the day.  My mom is my right hand and is not only helpful with the kids but also helps me a lot with my business.

6. What have been the hardships of running your own business?

I did not have start up capital at all so every bit of profit I made went straight back into my business. I also had to feel my way through the process with very little knowledge of running a business.

7. What have been the highlights?

Watching my brand grow and realizing my dream of having my own business. I also love watching the kids enjoying my brand as much as my own kids do.

8. What advice do you have for other women who are on the cusp of taking the leap into entrepreneurship?

You will never know if your idea or dream is going to be a success unless you try. Having a business while raising a family is very hard work but what you put into it is what you will get out.

9. How can we get in touch with you?

I am mostly available on WhatsApp, however email and Facebook will also be answered. I also have an inquiry form on my website.
