Blogs I love : A Vodka Kind of Mom

An unexpected side effect of this blogging journey is that I have met and befriended some incredible women from all over the world. One of them is the incredibly relatable and also super hot (her beach pictures make me want to both cry and also do 50 sit ups…possibly at the same time 😂) Ashley Marsh. I have been following her blog for quite a while and she has a strong female vibe that runs throughout her posts.

A little about Ashley in her own words:

I am 27 and live in the Bay Area but I am originally from Northern Utah. I have two beautiful little boys named Cash (4) and Tate (22 months). I am a full-time student with hopes of pursuing a Ph.D. in psychiatrists. I originally started my blog as a way to vent some of my anger, frustrations, and depression while I was suffering from postpartum depression and anxiety. It was extremely helpful and I got a lot of positive feed back from other women who were suffering as well so I just kept going with it. It’s blossomed into a fun place for me to talk about funny things, political things, and everything in between.

Q & A time…

1. Do you identify with the woman you were before having kids? I do not identify with the woman I was before I had kids. I was a party animal; I was either drinking or drunk 5 out of 7 nights. I was in one bad relationship after another and was the girl most other women didn’t trust, for good reasons. Since I had my son at 23 and his father left not long after, I had to grow up. Having Cash changed my life for the better in every sense. Granted, it did not happen over night but it did eventually happen. I am proud of the woman and mother I am still becoming. I am going to school full time to help other people who suffer from mental illness and I am constantly trying to be a better daughter, wife, mother, and friend.

2. If you were abducted by aliens tonight (because no-one wants to think about dying), how do you think your kids would remember you?  I don’t believe in aliens – I know I’m lame – but if for some reason I was to disappear tonight I think my son Cash would remember our dance parties. I think he would remember our mani-pedi dates. I think he would remember my long dark hair all over everything in our house. But mostly I think he would remember snuggling with me. Sadly my youngest is only 22 months so I’m not sure he would remember much of anything.

3. You have been granted the power to change one thing in the world to better the lives of your children. What would it be?  Being a feminist I would make everyone equal. I would make racism, sexism, misogyny, and homophobia a thing of the past; a mistake to learn from. I want my children growing up in a world where they are not condemned for being a different color, religion, sex, or having a different sexual preference. I also want them to grow up in a world where they won’t be condemned for sticking up for those who may be different from them.
